Once this bill is signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo, excavators that work for a local government and their hired contractors, as well as excavators that work for an operator and their hired contractors, will be required to receive training and education from their local one-call center. Under this bill, the Dig Safely New York Certified Excavator program in Safe Digging Best Practices constitutes as adequate training. Currently, there are more than 2,000 Certified Excavators throughout the state.

What is Dig Safely New York, Inc.’s Certified Excavator Program? The Dig Safely New York, Inc. Certified Excavator Program in Safe Digging Best Practices has set a new standard for training New York State professional excavators in the proper procedures of excavation. Certified Excavator Program classes are available in-person and online. Successfully completing this certification will qualify individuals as eligible to work for a municipality.
How do I show that I am a Dig Safely New York, Inc. Certified Excavator? Once an individual has successfully completed Dig Safely New York’s Certified Excavator Program, for the time of their certification they will have a Dig Safely New York, Inc. green Certified Excavator Card. Additionally, through 4iQ, access to Dig Safely New York’s, Inc.’s learning management software, 4iQ, an electronic Certified Excavator Certification for the duration of their certification.
