What is 811?
811 Day, August 11, serves as a natural reminder within the utility industry and communities across New York State, to always 811 before starting any digging project. Each year, across New York State and across the nation, the 811 number is celebrated. 811 Day represents the individuals who call New York State home and the families that build our communities. It represents the pursuit of continuing safe digging best practice education and the tireless effort to protect those who matter most. 811 is the national number designated by the Federal Communications Commission that connects professionals and homeowners to their local one-call center, free underground safety resources, and educational opportunities provided by Dig Safely New York, Inc.
